Hello Future Pack Family Member,

We are excited that you are considering joining our pack! Pack 187 is based out of Sun Blaze Elementary School and is “owned” by the Sun Blaze PTA. The meetings run September through May, with a couple of summer pack activities. Our pack is divided into “Dens”: Lions (K), Tigers (1st), Wolves (2nd), Bears (3rd), Webelos I (4th) and Webelos II (5th). Each den is led by at least one volunteer leader, most likely a parent.

Cub Scouts is for the entire family! When the scouts join our pack, their families are our families. The parents or guardians are encouraged to participate as much they can, being involved with the Pack whenever possible. Since our pack is 100% run by volunteers, we rely on everyone pitching in whenever and wherever they can.

Pack 187 is listed under the "Colonial" District, which is under the management of the Central Florida Council. All of the packs in the Central Florida Council begin with the number "3". So when registering for certain things, you will need the "3" in front of 187.

Most of our meetings are held on Monday nights from 6:15 until 7:15. To know exactly when we are meeting, please refer to the CALENDAR PAGE on this website. Our pack's meetings consist of two den meetings and one pack meeting every month. PACK MEETINGS consist of presentations of awards, announcements, skits performed by pack members, and other fun stuff. Pack meetings are for the entire family to attend. At our DEN MEETINGS, parents are welcome to stay but are not required for Wolf, Bear and Webelos scouts. It is, however, required that Lions and Tigers have a parent there the entire meeting. We do not provide snacks for den meetings so please make sure your child isn't hungry when you drop them off. If your child is unable to attend a meeting at any time, they can keep up on their own with the help of their den book and a parent. Your den leader can explain this better at your den meeting. 2022-23 dens are separated as follows:

Kindergarten: Lions (Open Position)

1st grade: Tigers (Carrie Ballester)

2nd grade: Wolves (Amber Robert)

3rd grade: Bears  (Open Position)

4th grade: Webelos 1 (David Magness)

5th Grade: Webelos 2/AOL (Open Position)

LEADERS: Each Cub Scout pack is devised of Den Leaders (listed above), Assistant Den Leaders, a Cub Master, an Assistant Cub Master and a Committee. The committee makes all decisions regarding the pack as a whole and communicates directly to the Cub Master and den leaders.

Cub Master: Frank Walker

Committee Chair: David Magness

FEES: BSA Operation & Insurance fees are fees that are paid directly to the National BSA (our pack does not receive a dime from these fees). The fees are $165 for the first year, and $140 for subsequent years.

In addition to the BSA fees, our pack charges an annual Pack activity fee of $125* (used to be called den dues), which pays for den supply, advancements (belt loops, pins), Pinewood derby kits & awards, Pack meeting supplies, a scout graduation gift, and more.

POPCORN & CAMP CARD FUNDRAISERS: Each scout is responsible for selling a minimum $200 worth of popcorn AND $200 worth of discount "Camp Cards". We will have several opportunities to do this as a pack as well as online. Our pack will use these funds to help pay for some of the activities we want to do. Each scout will have a “scout account” in which a portion of their individual sales will be used solely for their purpose for things like fees, summer camp and campouts.

UNIFORMS: Uniforms with books are mandatory and will cost around $100 for Tigers, Wolves and Bears and about $120 for Webelos. The official BSA store is in Apopka (1951 S. Orange Blossom Trail) and a smaller shop called “Uniform Cottage” in Kissimmee (12 E Darlington Ave). The Uniform Cottage is more convenient but a little more expensive. Uniform Cottage will sew on badges for a small fee. The shop in Apopka has them already sewn on so there’s no waiting. You may also shop on line at www.scoutstuff.org. Uniforms are required for pack meetings and some pack activities. Books are required for every den meeting.

We also have pack t-shirts ($12) that are highly recommended. For Den Meetings, the scouts will be allowed to wear their t-shirts. If they do not have a t-shirt for den meetings, a uniform is required. Many parents and siblings have chosen to buy pack t-shirts as well, in order to show support for our scouts at different pack events, including pack meetings. Pack t-shirts will be available to purchase at the first few meetings.

Pack 187 has a WhatsApp information group. As far as communication, this is crucial to be a part of. A link will be sent out to join once your scout is registered. We also have a Facebook page to post pictures and reminders. To find us on Facebook, please look under “groups” for “Cub Scouts Lake Nona Pack 187” and ask to join. Or you can find the link below. You will be accepted within 48 hours.
