Bobcat

bobcat requirements

The first rank that every scout must earn when entering the Cub Scouting Program is the Bobcat rank. The items below are the basic information that all Cub Scouts must learn, which is why everyone who enters into Cub Scouting must earn the Bobcat Badge.

Earning the bobcat rank

To earn the Bobcat rank the new Cub Scout must do the following:

1. Learn and say the CUB SCOUT OATH and know what each means (see handbook).

On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country,
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help others at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
— Cub Scout Oath

2. Say the SCOUT LAW.  Tell what it means (see handbook).

A Scout is...
TRUSTWORTHY
LOYAL
HELPFUL
FRIENDLY
COURTEOUS
KIND
OBEDIENT
CHEERFUL
THRIFTY
BRAVE
CLEAN
REVERENT
— SCOUT LAW

3. Show the CUB SCOUT SIGN. Tell what it means (the two fingers represent sharp ears of the wolf ready to listen Akela! Remember that Akela means "good leader" to a Cub Scout. Your mother, teacher, and Cubmaster are just some of the leaders that are considered Akelas).

4. Show the CUB SCOUT HANDSHAKE. Tell what it means (When you shake hands with another Cub Scout, do this handshake. This means that you help each other to remember and obey the Scout Oath and Scout Law).

5. Say the CUB SCOUT MOTTO. A motto is a guiding principle.

Do Your Best.
— Cub Scout Motto

6. Give the CUB SCOUT SALUTE. Tell what it means (when you salute, you are showing respect to our flag and our country. Always use your right hand when saluting and always salute when you are in a uniform. If you are not in dress uniform, you salute by placing your right hand over your heart).
